Our ideal itinerary takes us from the narrow medieval alleys in Monaco-ville to the bright lights and old-world luxury of Monte Carlo.
Since its capture by the Grimaldi family at the end of the 13th century, the tiny state clinging to the Rock of Monaco has survived being buffeted by the political winds of its larger neighbors. The fortifications of the Prince’s Palace in Monaco-Ville underscore the feisty history of the Monégasque while the winding alleys transport the pedestrian into yesteryear.

Spending the day wandering the cathedral or the oceanographic museum sounds just as appealing as stretched out by a pool and enjoying the sunshine, but an evening out must include a visit to the Casino de Monte Carlo, even if no wagers are placed.
And if we’re going to do Monaco, we’re going to want to do it right. Sea-view room at the Hotel Hermitage, anyone?
